Arrival dates are mandatory. Students are advised not to plan or purchase their travel arrangements until they have been admitted to the UIW Exchange Program and have been approved for a J-1 visa by a U.S. consulate.
Though UIW does not foresee any major changes regarding the improvement of the health environment in the U.S., specifically San Antonio, Texas, UIW reserves the right to postpone or cancel the exchange program at any point.
If UIW postpones or cancels the exchange program due to health concerns related to COVID-19, study abroad candidates should be prepared for the financial and academic implications. UIW is not responsible for any financial losses incurred due to the cancellation of the exchange program or any other costs associated with U.S. and/or foreign official or government requirements, directives, or recommendations.
UIW may accept up to two (2) undergraduate students during an academic year or one (1) undergraduate student for an entire academic year (AY). An academic year is defined as the fall and spring semesters.
Please send your student nomination(s) via email to UIW Study Abroad at studyabroad@uiwtx.edu.
Missed the deadline? Contact us to inquire about whether we are still accepting applications for the upcoming term.
Once your nomination has been approved, you will receive a link to the online application portal to create an account and submit an application. After submitting your application, the following documents need to be sent to intladmis@uiwtx.edu:
An admissions decision cannot be determined until all official documentation has been received. Only applications submitted by the home institution will be processed.
Exchange students are required to purchase international health insurance from UIW only. Other insurance will not be accepted.
Texas State law (SB 62) mandates that all entering students under the age of 22 provide a certificate signed by a health care provider or an official immunization record verifying that a student has been vaccinated against bacterial meningitis or has received a booster within five years of enrolling at the university.
Students must submit proof of the meningitis vaccine prior to arriving to campus and no later than 10 days prior to the start of the semester. Vaccine records should be emailed to registrar@uiwtx.edu and must include the student's full name, date of birth (mm/dd/yy) and student ID number.
Failure to submit prior to arrival will result in dorm assignment and registration being paused.
Students who are accepted into UIW’s exchange program will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (DS-2019) and an information packet with the next steps from International Student and Scholar Services. For more information, please contact us at intl@uiwtx.edu.
